Pinotage, a hybrid of Pinot Noir and Cinsault created in 1925, is now the dominant grape in South Africa. The variety captures both the hearty qualities of Cinsault and the more delicate characteristics of Pinot Noir. In this example, ripe, fresh red-black fruit flavors of strawberry and blackberry dominate the palate, followed by pliable tannins on the finish. This light- to medium-bodied red would make a wonderful match for pork and rich poultry dishes.
