Once called Septimania and governed by the Romans, the region now known as the Languedoc-Roussillon still features remnants of ancient roadways and other signs of the Roman occupation. Corbières, a sparsely populated, mountainous area within Languedoc, is home to the vineyards that produced this rustic wine, composed of 60% Carignane, 20% Grenache and 20% Syrah. The flavors of blueberry, plum and blackberry could best be characterized as plump and supple, with a captivating spice element on the finish. This red is sure to win over hearts and palates, especially when paired with rich poultry or pork dishes.
