2016 The Needle Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills more
6/8/2020 - I LIKE THIS WINE: 94 points (Edit)
13.9% alcohol; composite cork with maximum of 2 mm wine penetration, medium weight foil; medium to long legs, inky purple; opened and kept in the fridge for 24 hours, tasted at approximately 13 degrees C, full bodied character is more dependent on tongue-attraction & layering than on density of the wine; the Horse Heaven Hills AVA in southeastern Washington in this wine (which was subsequently vinted & bottled by TR Wines in Santa Rosa, CA, for the NYTimes Wine Club, Premium Level) lives up to its reputation of being associated with world class Cabernets; already the nose of black cherries & coffee promises something exceptional; a mélange of Black, Bing, and Rainier cherries greets the tongue in an overwhelming mouth feel, garnished with vanilla, coffee, and dark chocolate, extended into a long-lasting finish revisiting the fruit; the label rightly recommends pairing with grilled red meats or drinking solo; to that I would add a cheese platter featuring both soft and hard -- Camembert, Port Salut, Gruyère
I liked it. It was not acidic and tasted great.
